On November 1st, 2008, a 9-page whitepaper found its way online. Titled "Bitcoin: A Peer-To-Peer Electronic Cash System," the whitepaper's author clearly articulated their goal to create a decentralized digital currency. <br /><br />The only catch was: this author, named "Satoshi Nakamoto," was a complete unknown.
